Relient K's Anatomy of tongue in cheek, really hit the hammer on the head. With singles like "pressing on", "Sadie Hawkins dance" and "for the moments I feel faint" Relient K starts to stake its claim in Christian music.
The music while not perfect is excellent, with little room to improve. This is shown on tracks like "pressing on" and "Sadie Hawkins dance", on which it seems they captured the "punkish" sound well. Tracks like "break down" and "down in flames" don't move along as smoothly, but still are terrific songs. The rock tune "failure to excommunicate" is edgy, but still very solid and is a glimpse of what is to come.
The messages they send, are deeper than your average second CD, punk/rock group, and tackle issues like Christians not being Christians (down in flames), blaming others (maybe it's maybiline) and "failure to excommunicate" is a another tremendous song among several. Relient K also slows down on tracks like "those words are not enough", "for the moments I feel faint", and "less is more", which will satisfy those who prefer a more worship overtone.
In the mix of playful and short songs is a solid style of music, and surprisingly deeper lyrics. While there is room for some improvement, Relient K scores big on Anatomy of Tongue in Cheek.
Relient K Shows Growth, But Still Not Quite There| Posted July 11, 2007
It took a year to grow as Relient K released their second album. There were still references in the song lyrics"Breakfast at Tiffany's, Mr. Ed, Star Wars, Thundercats, Maybelline, Mary Tyler Moore Show, and Brian Wilson. But there are actually songs concerning worship.
Distinctive from its predecessor, references utilize fun, as opposed to exemplifying a point. A case in point is "Maybe it's Maybeline" which addresses our fixation with blame""Maybe it is them. Maybe it is me. Or, maybe it's Maybeline."
The vocals clearly have grown, as shown in "Lion Wilson," a concise a cappella song. The tunes also have advanced, taking more of a punk feel, but varied with acoustic guitar for worship songs.
Songs like "Sadie Hawkins Dance" and "I'm Lion-O" are enjoyable, and call the listener to dance. However, the real highlight is again an edgy song titled "Failure to Excommunicate," which speaks of excommunication in the world, racism, and loving outcasts.
Overall, an entertaining album; the group has enhanced their sound, but there's still room to grow.

Even in one of their first albums, these guys sound great and know what they are doing. There are so many good songs on this album, including: Pressing On, Sadie Hawkins Dance, Those Words Are Not Enough, For the Moments I Feel Faint, Failure to Excommunicate, and Less is More. Really amazing sound and lyrics. Relient K has so much talent so it's easy to see why they are successfull.

My first taste of Relient K was an interesting experience. I've had some great memories tied in with some of the songs on this cd. Listening to it again after listening to their newer cds, I can definetly tell the difference. But this is still one of my favorite cds.

i love this albulm i have all the songs on my cell phone! the songs on this albulms are vary uplifting and fun 2 sing to i love the relevant words and easy to sing alone songs.

I love everything by Relient K.
But I think this CD is my favorite. It's the first one I ever heard. I think it was at a family reunion about two years ago. Relient K is probably my favorite Christian bands. This cd is their best!

This album is a really wicked album!! it has a slighty less serious aproach compared to MMHMM but it is really really ausome!!
