Mission Six teamed up with Dan Needham and Kevan Cyka (together, have produced records for names such as Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan, Jump 5) for their sophomore sound. The Evansville, IN-based band co-wrote all of the new songs on the record. The remaining five songs are instrumental tracks the band titles “rock-a-longs,” giving fans the opportunity to sing along to Mission Six’s tunes.
Blending musical influences from Relient K and Family Force 5, Not Too Young contains songs such as “Stand Out” which emphasizes believers not going along with the crowd. The clever “Misfits” proclaims that since Christians are instructed to not live in the world, we are really misfits. “Forever” deals with the subject of purity and the title track “Not Too Young” was taken from 1 Timothy 4:12. Mission Six even adds a worship cover of the Newsboys’ “I Am Free” into the mix.

Not Too Young to make great music!| Posted April 28, 2011 "Not Too Young" is Mission Six's sophomore effort, released in 2009. The 10 track album is comprised of five regular tracks, as well as five karaoke tracks. For review purposes, I will just be talking about the five regular tracks.
"Not Too Young" begins with the title track, "Not Too Young". A fun song that has a great beat and solid guitars, "Not Too Young" is an anthem for teens all over. The chorus boldly states, "Here we go, now we're not alone, yeah we may young, but we're not too young to change the world!" The music of Mission Six is strong, and they have been compared to the Jonas Brothers and Relient K. They're a fun mixture of rock and pop. Overall a very good track, and one I'm sure you will enjoy.
Second we have "Stand Out", another high-energy song that encourages us to "stand out" and not back down. This track even features a surprise from bassist Michael Powers, at the end of the second verse. I'm sure this song is a blast live! Featuring strong, high-energy music and thought provoking lyrics, "Stand Out" is a top M6 song.
Now we've come to my favorite song off the album, "Misfits" which pretty much anyone can relate to at some point in their life, no matter how old they are. The song opens with Noah declaring he is a "misfit", then a catchy bass line. "Raise your hands if you don't fit in" starts out the verse, and once again Michael guests. Michael and Noah compliment each other very well vocally, and they did an awesome job on this song. The most stirring part of the song is the bridge where they slow things down a bit and sing, "Just when you think you're all alone, you find a place where you belong". Overall an amazing track that without a doubt encourages teens everywhere.
I can't review this song without laughing. It's not the nature of this song AT ALL, it's what I can imagine all the girls doing when they perform this live. "Forever" is a beautiful song about how important it is to stay pure for the one you will marry. "Everything has got a place in time, so before I call you mine, I wanna make sure you know you're worth the wait" is just a sample of how sincere and important the lyrics are to teenagers in our day. "Forever" brings strong vocals, equally powerful music, and even a fun outro complete with a good old, "yeeooowww"!
Lastly, we have a cover of the popular Newsboys track, "I Am Free". The music differs from the original a bit, giving a it more of a teen feel. Mission Six definitely does the song justice, and does not disappoint. I actually think I might like it better than the original Newsboys version. (Shhh!) It's an excellent cover.
Overall, "Not Too Young" is a solid sophomore effort. I know not everyone likes "teen bands", so this cd won't be for everyone. However, it's a great album! the sound of Mission Six has matured a lot since last year, and they will be releasing their third album, "Shockwave" next week, on May 3rd. They have been posting clips on their Youtube channel, and right now you can hear clips of three songs off that record.

When I was in 5th grade, music wasn't really big with me. The year before, I, like all the
other girls in my 4/5 class (so I believe) bought the soundtrack to Titanic for "My Heart
Will Go On." I never saw the movie nor did I develop a crush on "Jack", however. I was
also a member of choir and would've been in the chorus of the school musical too if I
hadn't missed practice and been kicked out (thanks to somebody, I don’t know who)
telling me it was cancelled.
For the boys of Mission 6, however, 5th grade was the year they decided to make music
for Jesus. Arming themselves with musical training, they quickly went on to record their
first album, Superhero. Boasting 10 tracks, and garnering comparisons to FF5, Relient K
and the insanely popular Jonas Brothers, the 5 youngsters made it clear where they stand
even in the naming of their band, a reference to God's presence and approval of their
"musicionary" (their word, not mine) efforts. Now, a little more than a year later, their
second album Not Too Young is an encouraging mix of uplifting songs, albeit short.
The title track, "Not Too Young" is an upbeat song which draws from 1 Timothy 4:12:
"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the
believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity." It's a theme you'd expect in
music geared to kids, but I think the look-downers need to hear it too. The next two
songs are actually extensions of each other. "Stand Out" is an anti-peer pressure song
with a soft chorus, and its sister song (or should that be "brother song"? It's alliteration
vs. boy-singers=boy song.) "Misfits" says that we shouldn't be surprised when we don't
feel like we fit in, because we're not supposed to. It may seem obvious, but it's actually a
truth that often sails right over our heads. "Misfits" sounds like regular rock and gets
punkier near the end.
"Forever" is an open letter to the girls they haven't met yet. It's a rarity from an all-boys
group to hear a song about purity, because in this world guys are considered the losers
for maintaining it. It's a song that's bound to earn the band respect. However, I was left
wishing for a little lighter touch with the music and more voice on this one. The last
complete track is a cover of "I Am Free." It's a song well-suited to their high-energy
style. However, while well done, Newsboys fans probably won't find anything fresh
about it, as my experience with the cynicism of older teens and 20-somethings
practically weaned on CCM versus my relative rookie status leads me to believe. Each of
the 5 songs is also available in a sing-along version for kids, rather than taking the profit-
milking step of selling the 5 songs as an EP and the karaoke tracks separate.
Not Too Young is a great appetite-whetter. The songs are uplifting and the very existence
of Mission 6 is proof positive that kids can make a difference at any age. Parents will
definitely approve and might even catch themselves humming along to "I Am Free."

Mission Six's newest album Not Too Young holds many songs with messages that teens everywhere need to hear. Their sound has greatly improved since their debut album. Their song Not Too Young encourages teens to make a stand for God and tell people about him and that they should go with the popular rule that you have to be older to make difference, because you're never too young. The song Forever is a sweet song saying that the vow to stay pure for their future wives and is a good encouragement song for other teens to do the same.
