While there is a Christian string that runs throughout both Paul Dexter’s life and music this release isn’t really a ‘Christian’ release. Although some of the songs could have a double meaning depending on what viewpoint of your own you bring to them.
That being said this release will be enjoyed by Christian and non-Christian alike because the music that makes up the songs found on this self-titled release use a very catchy style of music that combines a retro-pop sound with a modern rock one that I found really pleasing to my ears.

Jet Velvet is the "vanity project" for well-known (at least in music circles) singers/songwriters Paul Dexter and Matt Bissonette. While not billed as an overtly Christian album, the lyrics offer deeper layers of meaning evident to those with the perspicacity to detect them. The Orange County collaborators do a great job of addressing everyday issues with an lyrical authenticity, yet keep the music subtly whimsical.
Obviously influenced by musical icons such as the Beatles, the Police and Radiohead, Bissonette & Dexter nevertheless demonstrate their own obvious, yet unique mastery of songcraft with the songs of Jet Velvet. Fans of the late, lamented Dakota Motor Co. & PFR, as well as Jars of Clay, Leeland and Phil Wickham will find a breath of fresh, So. Cal. air with this release.
