Music is a form of storytelling. That is what Jackson, Tennessee native, Cooper Brown, discovered when he started experimenting with different musical instruments during his junior year of high school. Between playing the drums and watching his friends form chords on the guitar in an attempt to teach himself how to play, Cooper began immersing himself into the world of music. Little did he know that after only playing the guitar for four months, he would find himself playing in the youth band at his church when the lead guitarist got his hand impaled by a guitar string. It was that night that he played on stage for the first time and has since never turned back.
Cooper gained his love for music while playing with the youth praise band. This is where he learned how to be a worship leader and a Christ follower. As he approached college he knew that he was called to music and decided to attend Belmont University in Nashville.
Here he learned what it meant to be a songwriter and singer. He learned how to make his faith his own, and realized his love for scripture.
“Faith is what dominates and defines my life. It’s how I know that I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing, and this is confirmed when I read scripture. I read passages in the Bible and I am completely affixed. When I see people like David, Daniel, Paul, Peter, Abraham, and especially Jesus... I am blown away. When I read about their lives, I learn what it means to be a human in a broken world. I learn what it means to be flawed and to chase after God. I read these stories and the character of God is revealed. Who He is is revealed.”
While reading scripture, new ideas began practically jumping off the page for Cooper. The stories he started to envision came to life when he reread chapters of David’s life, and an overwhelming desire to tell the story through music led to a project called Kings. A preplanned Kickstarter campaign has helped to make the project possible and he is ready to release his new found project to the world.
Armed with a deep passion for music, its storytelling, and the hope of helping potential fans find something meaningful in his songs, Cooper is looking to the future with high hopes for reaching more people with his faith.
