All rock band's have motivations for doing what they do. Driving forces can range from seeking to change the world, all the way down to impressing pretty girls. But new group 6th Day Made is not just a band with motivation, but also one on a clear mission.

"We view ourselves as an extension of the church, and so our mission is the same -- albeit through music," states guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and producer Mark Maggard. "We exist to exalt the savior, evangelize the lost and edify the saints to encourage God's people."

Genesis 1:31 "And God saw everything that He had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day." The members of Michigan's 6th Day Made found themselves both enthused and satisfied when it came to choosing the eye-catching moniker for their exciting new rock band.

"We recognized that we needed a name that really expressed who we are," explains Maggard. "We were going through the book of Genesis when trying to come up with a name and were reading about how the Tower of Babel was being constructed. Chapter 11 tells of man constructing the Tower of Babel. Verse 4 includes "let us build a city and a tower, whose top may reach into heaven; and let us make us a name..." Later in verse 7, we see the Lord deconstructing what man has constructed, and in the very next chapter we see the Lord tell Abram "I will make thy name great." Lastly, in chapter 17 God changed his name."

The band's Biblically-inspired name actually came from a fan suggestion. And when the group heard it, Maggard recalls, they collectively said, "How profound is that?" It immediately reminded Maggard of Proverbs 22:1 "A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches." "So all of us recognized this as God giving us our name," he summarizes. (God gives His best to those who leave the choice to Him.)

The group's breakout single, "The Story of Love," perfectly underscores 6th Day Made's mission. "As we read about Jesus on the cross," Maggard explains, "we picture it in our mind. And greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. It's not a love story; it's the love story. It's the story of love in the highest; it's the story of God's love for us. So it's really an extraordinary experience for us to be a part of the song."

In addition to guitarist/vocalist Maggard, this Midwestern act consists of Doc at the bass and Jeff Trent on drums. And each band member has a distinctly unique personality. And even though 6th Day Made is a relatively new act, it's nevertheless one comprised of experienced musicians who have shared the stage with many of Christian music's biggest names, including Newsboys, Jeremy Camp, Hawk Nelson Thousand Foot Krutch and Crowder.

In order to musically accomplish the group's noble spiritual mission, 6th Day Made mixes together a wide variety of sonic elements. These stylistic variations can range from echo-y U2 guitar-driven melodies, to bright, energetic Brit pop song structures. "We really have a diverse style," notes Maggard. "from pop to Latino rhythms, along with jazz sensibilities, including swing with rock and reggae mixed in."

Rock and roll's wild and crazy history is filled with many memorable and sometimes shocking stories, so it's not unusual -- for instance -- to find acts that live up to the old saying 'I don't care what they say about me, just make sure they spell my name right!' In other words: for these sorts of publicity obsessives, there's no such thing as bad publicity. The group 6th Day Made, in stark contrast, would gladly disregard this axiom to instead please God.

"One of the things that's most important to us," Maggard explains, "is to be remembered as the most professional, the most cooperative and the most easy to get along with. And when people encounter our music, we want them to encounter the Holy Spirit."
