I stood at the foot of some mountains
Convinced they were too hard to climb
Descended to dark, lonely valleys
Afraid of the shadows I’d find
I’ve had those who would walk a while with me
But often, they’ve left me alone
And it seemed like some storm clouds above me
Would follow me all the way home
And from the hill where I’m standing today
I see two companions on my journey of faith
And as I grow older, looker over my shoulder, I find
That goodness and mercy have followed me all of my life
When I have had burdens to carry
His mercy would lighten the load
And so many moments unnoticed
His goodness was smoothing the road
Though for now heaven’s still just a promise
And the end is not clearly in view
I cling to His blessed assurance
That I’ll see Him when this life is through
And from the hill where I’m standing today
I see two companions on my journey of faith
And as I grow older, looking over my shoulder, I find
That goodness and mercy have followed me all of my life
And as I grow older, looking over my shoulder, I find
That goodness and mercy have followed me all of my life
