I painted mercy; show me your pain,
I painted diamonds; don't fear the rain,
I painted mercy; show me your pain,
I painted diamonds; don't fear the rain.
When I chose this colour to paint the winter sky I wanted to inspire you; it hurts me when you cry,
Perhaps you didn't notice the lantern in the tree,
I tried to show you Heaven - it isn't hard to see.
I painted mercy; show me your pain,
I painted diamonds; don't fear the rain.
Those are not tears falling; they're sparkling gems above,
Like stars, they shine in blackness: reflections of my love,
In case you did not notice the lantern on that tree,
Remember my son, Jesus, because he makes men see.
I painted mercy; show me your pain,
I painted diamonds; don't fear the rain.
