In Matthew 18:3 our Lord says, "Except ye become little children, you shall no enter into the kingdom of Heaven." On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross, the emblem of suffering and shame,
And I love that old cross, where the dearest and best in a world of lost sinners was slain.
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross, 'til my trophies at last I lay down,
I will cling to the old rugged cross and exchange it someday for a crown.
Just a closer walk with thee - grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let me...
I come to the garden alone while the dew is still on the roses,
And the voice I hear falling on my ear, the son of God discloses.
And he walks with me, and he talks with me, and he tells me I am his own,
And I will cling to the old rugged cross and exchange it someday for a crown.
