Behind the Song:
The 90-second intro, which only appears on the Deluxe Edition of Innocence & Instinct, recalls that moment from the classic poem when Dante and Virgil enter through the Gates of Hell. “It’s as though an ominous but important struggle is about to begin,” says guitarist-songwriter Jasen Rauch, describing the section of Dante’s Inferno that is read softly under the slow, mysterious rain of piano keys. Rauch continues, “There is something dark and sinister and beautiful about it, and we wanted to start the record with that tone, with that feeling.”
