As I kneel upon this altar
Of leaves and crushed grass
My heart is aching within
With thoughts of the coming task
Can this cup be taken?
Why must I be forsaken?
Is there any other way?
Father, please forgive them
They know not what they do
Father, please accept this offering
I commend it now to you
How I long to give them my love and my grace
So, Father, won't you please
Take me in their place
Now they roll their dice for my clothes
Below here at my feet
All I've endured brings me joy just to know
I'll soon set their captive hearts so free
But why must you still hide your face?
I surrender my spirit, the sacrifice is made
There could be no other way
Father, please forgive them
They know not what they do
Father, please accept this offering
I commend it now to you
How I long to give them my love and my grace
So, Father, won't you please
Take me in their place
Mary visited the tomb that day
To find the stone had been rolled away
She feared they'd taken my body in the night
But I said, "Fear not, it is I!
Three days I lay dead, but now I'm alive
There was just no other way!"
Father, please forgive them
My blood has washed away their sins
Father, please forget their trespasses
I died that they might live
How I long to show them my love and my grace
Oh Father, won't you please
See me in their place
When You look at them
See me in their place
Now I sit beside the throne
And intercede on their behalf
