You know what used to trample on my nerves?
To see bad guys get the lives good guys deserve
While rich men bribe their way to power
The poor men work an honest hour
It all seems upside down and quite absurd
Well you know what used to make my stomach sick?
To see good guys get the short end of the stick
While rich men seize an idle throne
The poor men work to build a home
And this, I thought, was all the devil’s trick
But then one night I saw the thing the devil doesn’t tell
If you sell your life, everyday becomes a living hell
I watch the rich man try to sleep
He rolls for hours beneath the sheets
But there’s still no smile upon his cheeks
I watch the poor man hold his girl
He found contentment in those curls
And he keeps on smiling cause he’s got the world
This is what the poor man understood
That man cannot be happy til he’s good
You can’t buy a name for thirty pence
You’ll be sorry when it’s too late too repent
So just love your neighbor like a good man should
And this is what we too should understand
That life not built on Love is sinking sand
You can’t buy happiness with gold
You’ll gain the world but lose your soul
Cause man makes money but money doesn’t make the man
And a paradox is speaking through that smile
All the money in the world can’t buy a life worthwhile
And I’ve found what really separates these men
It’s not what they have without, it’s what they have within
It’s not what we have without
It’s what we have within
