Brutal new sound | Posted October-28-2007
This album is just chock full of goodness. I personally did not like Act of Depression in the least. Changing of times was okay, but you won't catch it mysteriously stuck in my CD player for a week. Then, They're Only Chasing Safety came out and blew me away. I heard that they were coming out with another release and I was stoked. I remember thinking, "if it's anything like They're Only Chasing Safety, it's gonna be awesome". Then, I got it and it was nothing like the prior. However, it was still nothing short of spectacular. They actually took a step back into something a little harder, but turns out I liked the way they approached it this time around. As it turns out, I rank this album leagues over its predecessors. If you like hardcore and you end up giving this a try you will probably get like three more years out of your eject button on your CD player.

Red? Did Linkin Park change their name? | Posted October-28-2007
These guys bear a shocking resemblance to Linkin Park if I have anything to say about it. Not to say that this is a bad thing. I spent a lot of time envying the secular music industry for having something with such an awesome sound that Christian music had no answer to. Enter Red. This is my favorite album of theirs seeing as it is the only one. But, don't let that take away from how great this disk sounds. It's an extremely catchy collection and they even do a really good job with a few songs dedicated to a ballad-like style. Last, but certainly not least, they do an astonishing job of incorporating God into their lyrics. This ranges everywhere from "honorable mention" all the way up to straight praise and worship. The lyrics are beautifully articulated through and through.

Like nothing you've heard | Posted October-28-2007
This is another one of those groups that I was quite happy to bump into while on one of my Christian music searches I do about once every month or two. It was a very hard choice between this and their first album. Vices doesn't strike my fancy nearly as much as the first two. It seems that they keep getting softer... Anyways, New Medicines has a nice mix of hard and soft. Just about every song on the disk stuck with me from the first few listens. I found myself jamming to this compilation for several weeks without paying mind to much else. So long as you can stand a little bit of screaming you'll probably get into these guys.

For screamo fans | Posted October-27-2007
Chasing Victory has a kind of generic sound that is typical of the genre. That only goes to say that it doesn't offer anything entirely new and exciting. I still think they sound great to those that like this type of music. But, if you're looking for a band that's going to change the industry, look elsewhere. This review turned out sounding a bit negative, but try and take it for what it is; a critical analysis. I listen to the CD regularly and enjoy it... enough said.

Old bands can still learn new tricks! | Posted October-27-2007
Stavesacre was one of the first Christian bands I ever got into, period. They started things up in 1996. A lot of people have no clue that they exist, but those that do know of them pretty much adore them... Mark Salomon is a lyrical genious with a voice that is like no other. I don't like to give too much credit to the lead vocalist, this is a trend that has been passed down somehow and it really takes away from a lot of the other talented members of bands. Mark makes it so hard though. He has done lead vocals in quite a few Christian bands, all of which being pretty much entirely all it's own. This, however, is my top pick for Stavesacre. A lot of the other albums hold a place in my heart for getting me into the Christian music scene. But, sentiment aside, this album is awesome. Nothing too hard here as with most of the newer Stavesacre. If you want that, check out one of Mark's other bands. Just a good, all around good listen.

Chalk another one up... | Posted October-27-2007
Blindside is in the business of pumping out new music like no other. A lot of bands that try this end up producing sub-standard finshed pieces that seem lacking. This album is not one that falls into that category. You don't have to try too hard to identify who the artist of any of their albums is. Yet, at the same time, they are all diverse enough to keep most listeners' attention. I think this is the best out of the lot because it hits that balance that I like. I shy away from the hardest of music (a lot of their first CD) and yet I also don't care much for the most calm of Christian bands. This one should be right up your alley if you're into hard music that that doesn't venture too far into either extreme.

Hooray for the underdog! | Posted October-27-2007
Talk about a commonly overlooked, yet outstanding band... I found them one day cruising the internet. They have a nice blend of seemingly incoherent grunting and suprisingly pleasant and harmonic vocals. This is one of those groups that I actually had a lot of fun learning the lyrics to. Not only are they very intellectual, they're challenging too. Beloved is surely a breath of fresh air for those that love hardcore.

Something new every time | Posted October-27-2007
Okay, these guys exemplify diversity. They manage to come out with something fresh each and every time. Have I been in awe over every album? No. But, they certainly do keep you on your toes and everything sounds good to date. I think this is the best they have to offer. It's a hard pick with Rival Factions to compete with. This certainly is one of their CDs that I was completely amazed with though. They ALWAYS catch me off guard... It's mind-boggling how they can produce so many entirely different sounds. Unfortunately, these guys suffer from the same issue as I have with Emery. They simply don't put God out there as often as I like. If you can decipher their oftentimes cryptic lyrics, you can find God in the newer stuff. But, they don't seem to let their belief in God hang out like they used to. That's just my own objective view though, certainly not to take away from their obvious faith in Jesus Christ.

Need a good screamo band? | Posted October-27-2007
These guys are great. I was first introduced to their music about 2-3 years ago. I fell in love with their sound immediately. I had never gotten into the whole emo/screamo genre, so these guys were my gateway band. This is my favorite of their albums, though they are all quite good. "The Ponytail Parades" is one of those lyrically brutal songs that makes me hope that the guy didn't actually have to go through that to write about it. Yet it seems too detailed for him not to have experienced it. The disk if full of deep, meaningful lyrics from start to end though. The band could benefit from a little more spiritual lyrics though. I surely don't mind lyrics about life situations and such, but these guys do seem to be lacking in the "mention of God" department.

Awesome find | Posted October-27-2007
I stumbled across these guys by sheer luck one day and have loved them ever since. They have a truly unique sound that I have yet to get bored with. And this almbum is surely my favorite out of the two. It is a little harder than the second and I instantly loved every song on the CD. If you enjoy hardcore, this is a must.
