Bring back Phil | Posted May-20-2009
Over the years I have grown less and less drawn to the Newsboys. I miss their golden days with hits such as shine, breakfast, take me to your leader, spirit thing, and entertaining angels. The last Newsboys album that I truely enjoyed dates back to thrive.
The latest project,in the hands of god, seems to be lacking. Nothing that gets my blood boiling. No catchy tunes that I will be singing or rockin out to down the road. The only song I semi-like is the title track. Something is missing and maybe it's their first follow up without Phil joel. It is missing his musical flare that he brings to the classic Newsboys sound.
Now with Peter Furler not touring and michael tait filling in, I am left to wonder if their time has come. I know they are a christian favorite, but for me I haven't been feelin the vibe for many many moons. With Phil gone, Peter not wanting to tour, it is just not the same. 14 albums is impressive and I have a feeling they aren't done yet, but slowly the band is starting to lose it's grove.
Newsboys fans I hope you feel different and enjoy their latest project. For me it is lacking. Nothing new or exciting they bring to the table. Hopefully,if they stick around, they will bounce back and will produce something extraordinary like they did in their glroy days.

little mellow | Posted May-20-2009
Kearney's follow up album to "Nothing Left to Lose" is a tad bit mellow for my taste. The cd has some great lyrics, melodies, and acoustic sounds. Unfortunatlly it all tends to blend together.
After his huge success with "Nothing Left to Lose" I had high anticipation for a follow up. City of Black and White isn't a bad follow up, and I like several tracks including his radio hit "closer to love." He is maturing as an artist.
This cd would be better if he had some more upbeat songs. One of the reason I enjoy his earlier works is because he mixes it up.
Overall it is a good follow up as far as lyrics. Just wanted a little more to spice it up a bit. All the songs tend to blend together, and for me makes it a tad bit blah.

crank up the music! | Posted May-20-2009
In the christian market there are few bands who have such a unique style in sound such as Family Force 5. This album keeps crankin up the tunes from "Cadillac Phunque" to "Never Let Me Go" (diamond Edition). I don't think they have the best lyrics around, but the album is full of high energy and catchy songs.
The diamond edition is great for any fan because it features 3 bonus songs. However, I wish the project would feature more bonus material such as music video/behind the scenes/etc... If a band is going to rerelease a project I would expect them to offer more then just a couple bonus songs.
My favorite song on the project is "Lose Urself." It is a catchy song that makes me wanna tear up the dance floor.
Overall this project is why I became a fan of ff5. I hit the repeat button many many times on this cd. The only problem i have is lack of material for a "diamond edition" but music wise it kept me rockin.

Good if you like remixes | Posted May-20-2009
The goal of this cd is to be the ultimate party mix for the summer. (it states this in the marketing) I think fans will probably enjoy the fresh sound it brings to their previous album, but it left me in the cold.
I had high hopes going into the cd because the remixes feature members of relient k, david crowder band, 3oh!3, and more. Unfortunatly, the sound did very little for me. The album is to disco/techno, and I felt it had very little substance. I can't see myself groovin/partyin it up on any of the tracks. The only song I semi like is "ghostride the whip" which is a new recording for the album.
If you like remixes/techno/disco vibes then this cd is probably up your ally. If not (and you have similar style in music to me) you might want to skipt this one.

Might be for fray fans only | Posted February-25-2009
For all the fray fans out there, i am sure this album is right up your alley. I never got into the band with their first album, and can't get into their first christian album.
All the songs mesh together and i find they lack much of a beat, and the vocals bug me. The only song I don't mind is the radio single You Found Me, but it is already being overkilled by the radio.
Even though I never fully liked their first project How to Save a Life, I did go into their follow up with high hopes. Unfortunatly, it did not deliver for me. Their first project at least had more catchy tunes.
I'm sure if you love How to Save a Life, you will probably enjoy their first christian album. For me it is nothing extraordinary.

Boomin CD/DVD | Posted February-24-2009
I am not a huge live fan, outside of concerts. There is something magical about going to a concert that can't be broadcast on video.
The dvd aspect of this is great. Toby delivers pure energy, and it reminds of seeing him in concert, with a better view. Crank on some surround sound and it is rockin. I also heard he won a grammy for this project so hats of to t-mac.
The cd part doesn't do much for me. The songs are better on his other projects. I do love the mix of songs from all his projects. Since i own all of his albums i created sort of a greatest hits based off it. If he ever releases a greatest hits, to date, those songs would work just peachy.
So i give the video a higher score over the cd. It is a great project, but music wise better off listening to one of his other albums.

Rockin Red! | Posted February-24-2009
Innocence & Instinct picks up where End of Silence left off. It is an amazing rock album that doesn't fit into the typical "sophomore slump" that many bands face.
What makes Red unique is their instrumental didlys weaved inbetween songs. Add some profound lyrics, killer guitar riffs, sweet beats, cool strings, and outstanding vocals, and it is hard to go wrong with.
Shadows, Forever, and Death of Me are my top 3 songs on the album. Death of Me is by far the bands heaviest track. It starts off with a sweet intro then dives full throtle into the the song. By the end of it I can't help but hit the repeat button. My complaint is that christian radio stations do not play this song (if so i have yet to hear it)Probably to heavy for the christian market. It is kind of sad when a non christian rock station plays more of their music then the christian market.
The album does have slower songs that are more freindly to the christian radio market. Example Never Be the Same. It is a great song, but i'm not use to this side of Red. However, I do beleive it makes the band more rounded when they can do songs like these.
Ordinary World is the only song i'm not a hundrent percent on. It is a great song and it has more edge then the original, but i feel that red doesn't need to do remakes and should continue working on original music.
The band also has plenty of slower songs on the album more freindly to the christian radio market.
The deluxe edition is worth the extra 4 or 5 bucks for all the bonus features. Most deluxe editions I find blah and the "bonus" songs seem to lacking compared to the rest of the album. Red once again surprises me by delivering 3 amazing songs, music video, and behind the scenes footage. Overtake you is a fast upbeat song with some great guitar riffs. Followed by, perhaps one of my favorite songs on the album, Forever. Nothing and Everything is toned down song of the Fight Inside, and features a great piano medley. The Intro to the album isn't anything outstanding, but fits into Red's instramental didlys.
For all the reasons listed makes Innocence and Instinct my favorite album of 2009. Based on the current release dates I have no doubt it will be so well into the summer.

Adios Audio A | Posted February-25-2008
I grew up listening to audio a and love thier music. Personally, i love thier older projects better then they later ones but they continued to be a great asset to the christian music scene. It was sad they had to leave the scene, but i'm glad they continue to do ministry in various ways. The greatest hits, of course, showcases their biggest hits. It is a great tribute they left for the fans. It is similar to their other greatest hits album, except it features a few of their later work and two new songs written specifically for their fans. I wish the band best of luck as they continue to grow and serve the lord in various ways and am greatful for the music they left behind.

His first project continues to be my favorite | Posted February-25-2008
When this album came out i thought todd agnew would end up being the next big thing. "Grace Like Rain" is a great cd. It has great lyrics/catchy beat/and he has a very unique voice that not to many artist can match. The title track continues to be my favorite song on the album but "reached down" "Lay It Down" and "This Fragile Breath" are worth mentioning too. His other albums are ok, but for me they lack what his first project had.

fantastic album | Posted February-25-2008
Turn the tides is an amazing album. The whole album has great rock tunes that i can listen to over and over again. My favorite song is "You are my God" and "Turn the tides". I for one have been hoping that this band would continue to grow and wow audeiences, but unfortunatly it has been many many moons since they released their first project and i think they are no more. I saw them in concert a while ago and they are fantastic. If the band does release a follow up album i for one will be lined up to buy it if it is the same quality.
